FLAT-FEE REAL ESTATE BROKERS FORM NATIONAL ALLIANCE
BLOOMINGTON, MN,
APRIL 6, 2006:

In recognition of consumer demand for more options for selling and buying homes, a group of brokers have formed the American Real Estate Broker Alliance, AREBA (www.AREBA.org).

The charter members, whose innovative companies provide service in over half of the nation, specialize in new business models that challenge the industry to make changes by improving access to data, providing a wider array of options for consumers, reducing cost and making the home buying and selling processes more efficient.

The goal of AREBA members is to provide alternatives to traditional full-service brokerage by listing homes for sale in the Multiple Listing Service (MLS) for a flat-fee, usually from several hundred dollars to under one thousand dollars. Some member companies provide a menu of products and services to help the do-it-yourself home seller reach home buyers through the MLS, advertising on web sites, voice response, yard signs, etc.

The real estate alliance invites new members who practice flat-fee, fixed-fee, fee-for-service, a la carte, discount, buyer and seller representation, and rebate business models to join in support. Membership is $99 per year for flat-fee brokers and agents and $129 per year for affiliate membership for other business models.

The first charter meeting is scheduled for May 15, 2006 in Washington, DC. The group endeavors to create consumer awareness of home buying and selling options and to secure greater representation for innovative real estate service providers in the real estate industry on regulatory and government issues related to consumer choice.

The group is active in challenging the growth of minimum service and anti-rebate laws in states which mandate additional services or make rebates illegal. Such laws drive up the cost of selling or buying a home and ignore the value of emerging technologies that create a more efficient transaction for a new generation of home buyers and sellers comfortable with email, instant messaging, etc.
